This type of wooden model ship is definitely for advanced builders or those with a good grasp of woodworking. There are many collectors who seek out and pay varying sums of money for handmade ships of this type. There are all kinds of scratch built ships from which you can choose.

Viking ships are a popular choice for many builders. Not only are they historically significant and interesting, they are perfect for wood crafting. Ancient Roman warships are also ideal for woodworking. Sailing vessels are another example of boats that are perfect to craft from wood. Scratchbuilt wooden model ships are not only fun to build, but to collect and display as well. Whether you build the ships yourself or purchase them already assembled, you can display them with great pride. These wooden ships look fantastic in any room that has a ocean type theme or in a sophisticated masculine study. Close to a fish tank is another great place to display a wooden ship. If you've got kids or pets, make sure to utilize a secure display case or put the ship out of reach as you don't want it to get broken or knocked over.
